Jake Stringer and his partner Abby Gilmore welcomed their first child on August 21, and have named their daughter Milla Jane Maree. Jake plays for the Western Bulldogs, and made his debut last year. He is the nephew of Jamie Bond, who played for Hawthorn and Fitzroy.

Daniel Merrett and his wife Sarah welcomed their daughter Matilda Jean on July 2. Daniel has played for the Brisbane Lions since 2005.

Nathan Lovett-Murray, and his partner Janalli Brown, welcomed their daughter Harmony Mary May on June 1. Harmony joined big brothers Nyawi, aged 10, and Mara, aged 5. Nathan played 145 games for Essendon from 2004-13, and comes from a sporting family. He is the grandson of Sir Douglas Nicholls, who played for Fitzroy, and a cousin of former Essendon player, Andrew Lovett. Nathan’s sister Jessica is married to Carlton player Jeff Garlett.

The blog featured the name Harmony for Harmony Day in March this year, and I wonder if Harmony Day also inspired the choice of baby Harmony’s name?

Radio host Matt Acton from SeaFM, and his wife Esther, welcomed their first child together on February 20, and have named their son Zander Jeremiah. Zander Acton was born at Pindara Private Hospital on the Gold Coast at 9.23 pm, weighing 3.57 kg (just under 8 lb), and measuring 51 cm. Zander joins big brother Ethan, aged 11. Matt and Esther chose the name Zander early in the pregnancy, but kept it a secret. If anyone asked what the baby’s name would be, they told them Felix – a name they liked, but which had become too common in their area for them to use.

Artist David Bromley, and his wife Yuge, welcomed their daughter Wen last year. Wen is a Chinese name meaning “culture, literacy”. David has had more than 30 solo exhibitions, and is considered one of Australia’s most collectible artists. Yuge is a former criminal lawyer who has become a fashion designer. The Bromleys own a store called In This Street in Byron Bay.

Sydney businesswoman and former reality TV contestant Yasmin Dale welcomed her daughter Millie last year. Yasmin took part in the 2006 Channel Ten reality show, Yasmin’s Getting Married, which was supposed to find Yasmin a husband, and arrange and pay for her wedding. The show was axed after just one week, so Yasmin never did get married. She separated from Millie’s father, and is currently dating: she has no plans to marry in the future, and if it happens, it won’t be on television.

Radio personality Samille “Sami” Muirhead, and her husband Sam Bohner, welcomed their son August Louis, nicknamed “Augie” on August 1. August was born at 7.47 pm at Sunshine Coast Private Hospital; he joins big sister Avalon, aged 3, and big brother Nixon, aged 21 months; Nixon’s birth was announced on the blog.

August’s name is inspired by his date of birth: he was born on the first day of the month, and August 1 is the day officially designated as the birthday of all horses in the southern hemisphere. As you may know, 2014 is the Year of the Horse in the Chinese calendar, so August is born on the “Day of the Horse” in The Year of the Horse! Could they pass up that opportunity? Nay!

August’s middle name, Louis, is in honour of someone very special – the family’s much loved pet shih tzu.

August’s sister Avalon was quite sure that he was going to be a girl, and had already chosen the name Rosie Swimming Pool for her new sister. Apparently she has suffered a genuine disappointment that her name choice won’t be used. Perhaps Avalon will be one day start her own name blog.
