Peter and Hannah Logan, from Logan family wine company in the Mudgee area, welcomed their daughter Clementine Frances last March, during the 2014 vintage. The middle name Frances is in honour of Peter’s mother. Peter is planning a Clementine label wine, probably a riesling. He already has wine labels named after Hannah, his father Malcolm, mother Frances, sister Kylie, and brother Greg; the Ridge of Tears label is named for the Clan Logan’s Gaelic battle cry.

Damien Stevens and Jodie Belleville, award-winning Hunter Valley winemakers who have recently opened the Hart & Hunter winery and cellar, welcomed their daughter Audrey this year, a little sister for Grace, aged 5 (Grace can be seen running through a vineyard on their website). Damien and Jodie are in partnership with their London-based friends, Dan and Elle Hart.

Ben Murdoch-Masila, and his partner, Roxy Mura, welcomed their daughter Acacia-Rose earlier this year [pictured]. Acacia-Rose is named in honour of Ben’s best friend, Mosese Fotuaika, who passed away in tragic circumstances last year: Ben and Mosese first met in a park in the Brisbane suburb of Acacia Ridge. Ben is originally from New Zealand, and has played rugby league in Australia since 2010. He signed with the Penrith Panthers this season, and they will be playing the Canterbury Bulldogs in the finals this weekend. Ben has also played for the Tongan national team.

Ben’s friend Mosese was also from New Zealand, and his fellow team mate at the Wests Tigers. Several months after Mosese’s death, his girlfriend and high school sweetheart Shanice Alaiasa gave birth to their daughter, who she named Taya – the name Mosese had chosen for her before she was born.

Ashley Harrison and his wife Majella welcomed their son William late last year, a brother for Ethan. Ashley made his debut in 2000 and played almost 300 games during his career; he played for several clubs, most recently the Gold Coast Titans, and was selected to play for Queensland in State of Origin, as well as the Prime Minister’s XIII and the NRL All-Stars. Ashley recently retired from the game because of a severe neck injury.

Ryan Stig, and his wife Andrea, welcomed a daughter named Norah Joy earlier this year. Ryan played for the Newcastle Knights, but was forced to stop playing in 2011 after developing a blood clot on his eye and chronic fatigue. He was recently diagnosed with Lyme Disease, and will be travelling to Germany for treatment this month.

blog190914_curtisCelebrity chef Curtis Stone, and his wife, American actress Lindsay Price, welcomed their second child on September 16, and have named their son Emerson Spencer. Emerson Stone was born in Los Angeles weighing 3.4 kg (7lb 11oz), and joins big brother Hudson, aged 2 1/2. Hudson’s birth was announced on the blog.

Since Hudson was born, Curtis has opened his first restaurant, named Maude, in Los Angeles, and he and Lindsay got married in Spain last year.

Hudson had one of the fastest-rising names of 2012 – will Emerson increase the popularity of his name, or will it be his middle name that rises?

Chef Alessandro Pavoni, and his wife Anna, welcomed their daughter Jada on July 7. It was especially wonderful news because Alessandro had bone cancer two decades ago, and was told he would never be able to have children. He also had a double bypass after two near-fatal heart attacks three years ago. The Pavonis had five years of IVF, and suffered four miscarriages, before having Jada. Alessandro was born in Brescia, in Italy’s north, and worked at several Michelin-starred restaurants in Europe, including La Rotonde in Paris, before moving permanently to Sydney in 2003. He opened his own restaurant at The Spit in Mosman in 2009, and Ormeggio at the Spit has won several awards since then. Alessandro is well known as a celebrity chef on Channel Ten’s Masterchef.

LNP candidate Matt Trace, and his wife Michelle, welcomed their fifth child early in July, and named their son Noah. Noah Trace joins big brothers Hayden, aged 13, Jacob, aged 10, Bryce, aged 4, and Liam, aged 2. Matt is a dairy farmer from Kenilworth in Queensland, and a cricket coach in his spare time. Matt has been selected by the Liberal National Party to stand for the seat of Nicklin against long-standing Independent Member Peter Wellington in the state election next year.

Journalist Emma Heron, and her husband Brian Schafer, welcomed their daughter Ruby Sue earlier this month. Emma writes for the Chinchilla News in Queensland, while Brian is the Venue Manager for the Commercial Hotel in Chinchilla.

Diana Glenn and Vince Colosimo.

Actor Vince Colosimo, and his girlfriend, actress Diana Glenn, welcomed their first child together in April, and have named their son Massimo. Vince is also father to Lucia, his daughter with former partner, actress Jane Hall.

Vince has been a familiar face in Australian film and television since 1983, when he was chosen to star in Moving Out. He won the AACTA Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role in the film Lantana in 2001, and has had roles in The Wog Boy and The Wog Boy 2, Chopper, The Nugget, Take Away, Body of Lies, Daybreakers, and The Great Gatsby, amongst others. A television mainstay, he has been seen in many popular series, including A Country Practice, Something in the Air, The Secret Life of Us, Kath and Kim, Underbelly, and Janet King. As well as his acting career, Vince owns a Melbourne cafe, and his business partner is also named Vince. Vince was selected for Who’s Who in Australia a few years ago.

Diana has appeared in Neighbours, Home and Away, The Secret Life of Us, The Elephant Princess, Secrets and Lies, Underbelly, and The Slap. She played the title role in crime series Carla Cametti PD, where Vince also had a key role. Her movie roles include Oyster Farmer and Black Water.

Massimo was covered on the blog last year as part of a list of Italian Names for Boys, where I noted that it was one of the most common Italian boys’s names spotted in birth notices – Massimo Colosimo seems to be another good example of this trend in Italian heritage choices. It was also chosen by the public as one of their favourite Italian names for boys.

Michael Ennis and his wife Simone recently welcomed their fourth child, and have named their daughter Evelyn Swan. Evelyn joins big brothers Jack and Randy Wolfe, and big sister Koby Fox (or Koby-Fox, or Kobyfox – I have all seen all three reported as her name). The animal spirits continue! Evelyn’s birth was reported on Thursday night’s televised NRL game, and the commentators began bickering about whether Swan was a “person’s name” or “just a surname”. Michael’s family has been previously featured on the blog, and he is signed with the Cronulla Sharks for next year.

Heath L’Estrange and his wife Jess welcomed their first child in October last year, and named their daughter Grace. Heath has played professional rugby league since 2004, and spent four years with the Bradford Bulls in the UK. He signed with the Sydney Roosters this season.
