361729-michael-husseyCricketer Mike Hussey, and his wife Amy, welcomed their son Oscar back in June. Oscar was born at 28 weeks, and his name seems to have only recently been released to the public. His early birth caused real concern at the time, as the Husseys last baby was also born prematurely, and Mike pulled out of a tour of England in order to be with his family, because Oscar and Amy were in hospital for three months. However, Oscar is doing well now. Oscar joins older siblings Jasmin, aged 8, William, aged 6, and Molly, aged 5.

AFL footballer Dean Cox, and his wife Kerry, welcomed their daughter Charlotte Ivy on December 22. Dean plays for the West Coast Eagles, who have enjoyed something of a baby boom this year – team mates Daniel Kerr, Matt Priddis, and Darren Glass have all welcomed new babies in the past few months, and so has fellow West Australian Aaron Sandilands, from the Fremantle Dockers.

Golfer Aaron Baddeley, and his wife Richelle, welcomed their son Jeremiah earlier this month. Aaron was born in the United States, but grew up in Australia; he has joint citizenship and owns homes in Melbourne and Scottsdale, Arizona. Aaron is a committed Christian, and has as his personal Bible verse Jeremiah 29:13, which speaks of seeking and finding God on a regular basis. It would seem that this was the inspiration for his son’s name. Jeremiah joins big sisters Jewell, aged 5, and Jolee, aged 2.

NRL footballer Andrew Fifita, and his partner Nikki Kafoa, welcomed their first child in November, and have named their son Latu Jay. Andrew comes from a sporting family; his uncle John played for the St. George Dragons, and his twin brother David plays rugby league in France. Andrew plays for the Cronulla Sharks, and in 2010 he was a member of the Tongan national team; he was selected for the Indigenous All Stars this year. Latu is a common Tongan name; the meaning isn’t certain, but it is thought that it may mean “chief”.

Former AFL footballer Matthew Lloyd, and his wife Lisa-Marie, welcomed their son Jacob Matthew in November. Matthew used to play for the Essendon Bombers, and since his retirement, has had a successful career in the media. Jacob joins big sisters Jaeda, aged 6, and Kira, aged 3.

NRL footballer Jason Ryles, from the Melbourne Storm, and his wife Alana, welcomed their daughter Giselle Ivy on July 11.

Jockey Craig Williams, and his wife Larysa, welcomed their daughter Summer Joy early in the year. Craig is a member of two important racing families, and Larysa studied horse management in the Ukraine before coming to work in the industry in Australia. Summer joins older siblings Viktor, aged 14, Olena, aged 10, and Oliver, aged 3.

Former jockey Johnny Stocker, and his wife Nicki, welcomed their daughter Madison Jade on May 23. Madison joins big sister Emily, aged 3.

AFL star Andrew Carrazzo, and his wife Yvette, welcomed their first children in January – triplets named Grace, Charlotte and Sophia. Andrew plays for the Carlton Blues.

Channel 9 newsreader, Wendy Kingston, and her husband David Thompson, welcomed their son Joshua on April 12. Wendy is now hosting a mid-afternoon news show.

Reality TV chef Jennifer Evans, and her husband Wayne Ormond, welcomed their first child in the middle of the year, and named their son Harlow. Jennifer was the winner of the third season of cooking show My Kitchen Rules, where she was known as “Princess Jen”, and portrayed as the show’s “villain”. Since leaving the show, she has marketed her own line of pre-made cooking pastes and is writing a cookbook.

Actress Holly Brisley, and her husband, marketing executive Paul Ford, welcomed their daughter Willow Jade in July, a sister for Levi, aged 3. Both Willow and Levi were conceived with the help of IVF.

569911-brooke-mcclymontCountry music singer-songwriter Brooke McClymont, and her husband Adam Eckersley, welcomed their daughter Tiggy Heart on November 21. Tiggy Eckersley was born in Newcastle Private Hospital at 3.50 pm, weighed 3.18 kg (7 lb), and was 51.5 cm long. Tiggy has a big brother named Harry, aged 5, from a previous relationship of Adam’s.

Brooke has been performing in public since she was 11, when she won a local talent contest, and has written songs for Kate DeAraugo and Olivia Newton-John. Her first song, I Can’t Wait, was released in 2002, and was covered by Hilary Duff for the Disney show, Lizzie McGuire. In 2006, Brooke formed a band called The McClymonts with her sisters Samantha and Mollie, and they have been performing together ever since.

Adam made the finals of the 2009 season of Australian Idol, after already winning several awards for blues/roots music. This year he signed with his first major record label. Brooke and Adam were married on Adam’s parents’ country property in the country music capital, Tamworth, in 2009. They honeymooned in Tasmania.

Brooke and Adam were considering the name Tiger for their baby girl, but went with Tiggy instead as a bit of a spin on it.

wes jadeIronman Wes Berg, and his wife, Jade Sutcliffe, welcomed their daughter Billie seven weeks ago. Billie joins big sister Mila-May, aged 22 months.

As well as competing in Ironman, Wes is trainer to some of the best surfers in the country, including Joel Parkinson and Bede Durbidge, and head coach at the Burleigh Surf Lifesaving Club. He featured in the documentary One Touch this year.

Jade is a former professional Ironwoman, which is how she and Wes first met. After retiring, she became a sports manager in NRL football and surfing, and at point was the “Lady Luck” interviewer on the NRL Footy Show. She and Wes are the owners of Berg Boards. Wes and Jade were married in 2007.

The article which mentions Wes Berg noted how there was an abundance of daughters amongst Ironman champs, and quotes an old wive’s tale to the effect that the fitter a man is, the more likely he is to be the father of a girl rather than a boy.

I must confess to not hearing this before, but I do keep track of celebrity babies by their parents’ professions, and have noticed a heavy preponderance of daughters born to NRL footballers compared to sons. Radio hosts, who literally sit down on the job, have had many more baby boys than girls this year.

Of course, as Wes wisely says, “Girls or boys, they are all wonderful”.

AFL star Darren Glass, captain of the West Coast Eagles, and his wife Alicia, welcomed their son Nixon John at the start of the month. Nixon Glass joins big sisters Mila and Zara, who have been previously mentioned on the blog.

I remember this sibset was quite a hit with blog readers, and wonder what you think about the addition of baby Nixon?

This is the second celebrity baby named Nixon this year, and it’s a name I have often seen in birth notices. Can anyone tell me why Nixon is suddenly the new Jaxon?
