Celebrity chef Curtis Stone, and his partner, American actress Lindsay Price, welcomed a son on November 6, who is believed to have been named Hudson. Hudson Stone was born in the United States.

Curtis Stone has worked in restaurants around the world, and presented cooking programmes in Australia, the UK and the US. He is currently the host of American reality TV show Top Chef Masters, and is the face of Coles supermarkets.

Lindsay Price is probably best-known for her role as Janet Sosna on teen drama series Beverley Hills 90210, although she has been in several familiar soaps and comedy series, such as The Bold and the Beautiful and How I Met Your Mother.

Curtis and Lindsay have been dating since 2009 and are currently based in Los Angeles.

Former hockey champion Bianca Pritchard, and her husband Michael, welcomed their fourth child around February this year – a boy named Sebastien. Sebastien joins older siblings Oliver, aged 8; Oscar, aged 6; and Stella, aged 4.

Bianca, then Bianca Langham, was selected for the national hockey team in 1994, and was a member of the 1996 and 2000 Olympic training squads. In 1998 she won gold in both the Commonwealth Games and the World Cup, where she scored the wining goal over the Netherlands. She was recently voted #18 on a list of greatest Tasmanian sportspeople. She and her husband were married in December 2000.

Bianca suffered from postnatal depression after the birth of Oliver and found it hard to adjust to life as a mother. However, she’s now very happy, and so comfortable with motherhood that the whole family went on a caravan trip around Australia when Stella was only a few days old.

She recently launched a Bubs and Bubbles mothers social group in Hobart to combat social isolation amongst mothers of young children. Any money raised by the group will go to the Royal Hobart Hospital Paediatric Unit.

Lawn bowls champion Stacey Collier, and her partner, welcomed their third child at the start of the year; a girl named Indiana. Indiana joins older siblings Bailey, aged 7, and Declan, aged 4.

Stacey has played for Australia, and also for her home state of Victoria. Tomorrow will be her first Victorian Open. Last week Stacey won the Mooroopna Club Championship, after only three weeks back playing sport after the birth of Indiana.

Craig Dontas, who drives for Thirsty Camel Racing, and his wife Renee, welcomed a baby boy in March, named Zac Michael. Zac joins big brother Samual. Zac Dontas has already been mentioned on the blog, in the entry Boys Names That Only Chart in Australia.

Grant Johnson, the reigning V8 Ute champion, and his wife Belinda, welcomed a baby boy in June, named Elliot. Elliot joins big sister Amanda. Grant and Belinda apparently allowed themselves the full 60 days after Elliot’s birth to choose a name, and Belinda stipulated the name couldn’t start with the letter J, or “sound like a NASCAR driver”. The interviewer pointed out there is actually a NASCAR driver named Elliot – Elliot Sadler.

Breakfast radio host Hayley Pearson, and her husband Jimmy Worthington, welcomed their first child on November 3; a son named Austin Bob. Austin Worthington was born at 5:43 am weighing 3.1 kg (7 pounds). Hayley and Jimmy married in 2007, planned to start a family at the end of the year, and were instantly successful in their efforts.

Hayley is co-host of the breakfast radio show on SAFM in Adelaide, has appeared on television several times, and was even an extra in a movie. In 2007, Hayley was lured to Nova in Melbourne when they heard that her weekend hobby was making fun of “silly bogan names” she read in birth announcements.

In May, Hayley revealed that she and Jimmy were arguing about what to call the baby; she has been planning baby names since she was in high school and already had a list ready to go, but Jimmy “screwed his nose up” at most of them. She made it clear that she would not be revealing the baby name in advance. SAFM jokingly referred to Austin as “Darren” – presumably because they consider it to be a “silly bogan name”.

I am reminded of two other breakfast radio hosts who became parents this year, in regard to baby names. Firstly, Ross Stevenson from 3AW in Melbourne, who often makes fun of celebrity baby names and names with unconventional spellings on his show, and whose colleagues made up a fake name for the new baby. And secondly, Emily-Jade O’Keefe from Triple M in Brisbane, who had also been planning baby names since high school.

It seems that breakfast radio hosts have a bit of a bee in their bonnets on the subject of baby names, which makes them perfect fodder for (and possibly even perfect readers of) this blog. Ross and Emily-Jade both chose names which have been featured on Waltzing More Than Matilda, while Hayley picked a name mentioned in one of the Midweek Sibsets.

Recently we featured new babies from The Farmer Wants a Wife, and here is another. Rob Hodges runs a beef and sheep farm in Mount Gambier, South Australia, and Jo Fincham was a newspaper photographer from Melbourne when they met on the second season of the rural dating show. Rob and Jo have been married for eighteen months, and had their first child during the winter – a daughter named Darcy.

While some of the women from the show have admitted to having trouble adjusting to farming life, Jo is much happier and healthier since moving to the country, and loves being a mother.

Media personality Emily-Jade O’Keeffe, and her husband, architect Gerard Murtagh, welcomed their first child about a week ago. They have named their daughter Millie Valentine; Millie was conceived after Emily-Jade underwent fertility treatment.

Millie was only one of the names they were considering; Molly and Melody were also up for debate, and Emily-Jade was keen on Molly May Murtagh until she realised the initials spelled out the radio station she worked for. Valentine is what Emily-Jade and Gerard called their unborn baby as a nickname, because it was conceived on Valentine’s Day. As Valentine can be used for both sexes, perhaps the middle name would have been used whether the baby was a boy or a girl. My understanding is that Valentine is a name that Emily-Jade has loved since her early teens.

Emily-Jade is a breakfast radio host for Triple M Brisbane, a regular on Channel 9’s Mornings with Kerri-Anne, and writes a blog for The Courier Mail called Emily Everywhere. She is also a MC and a marriage celebrant.

Champion jockey brad Rawiller, and his wife Carolyn, welcomed their first child last week, daughter Cleo Kate, who was conceived using IVF. Cleo Rawiller was due to arrive tomorrow, Melbourne Cup Day, and because she came a week early, Brad will be free to ride in the Melbourne Cup. However, this will only happen if his brother Nash loses his appeal against his suspension; if Nash’s bid fails, then Brad will take his place on American horse Unusual Suspect.

Brad was distraught when doctors told him the strict diet he maintains as a jockey to keep his weight down had left him sterile. Wanting a baby more than anything, he and Carolyn took a month-long holiday to improve his health before undertaking treatment at a Melbourne fertility clinic. Carolyn was pregnant much sooner than expected, and becoming a father is the happiest moment of Brad’s life.

(Story and photo from The Daily Telegraph, October 31 2011)

UPDATE: Was just watching the evening news, and it was announced that Nash Rawiller had lost his final appeal and will not be racing tomorrow. His brother Brad will be riding Unusual Suspect in his place.

UPDATE (November 1): Unusual Suspect came in 9th during the Melbourne Cup.

Soccer player for Sydney FC, Jamie Coyne, and his wife Tanja, welcomed their first child on Tuesday October 25. They have named their son Lucas, and Jamie says that they did not name him after Socceroos skipper Lucas Neill – it was just the only name they could agree on.

Jamie plays right fullback for his home town team, Sydney FC, and began his career in England playing for Westham United. His older brother Chris plays for Perth Glory.

Celebrity Baby News: “The Farmer Wants a Wife” Babies

Channel 9’s The Farmer Wants a Wife is a reality TV show where single farmers get the chance to date several people from the city, and eventually choose one. Hopefully, their choice is equally enamoured with them, and possibly marriage is in their future. Here are two couples who have recently had children, all thanks to the show.

Chris Newsome and his wife Kim met on the first season of the show, in 2007. They hit it off straight away, were engaged by March 2008, and married in May 2008. They allowed their wedding to be filmed for the start of the next series. Their daughter Charlotte Ann was the first baby from the show; she was born in 2009.

Kim still marvels at how the show changed her life. She had almost given up on ever meeting the man of her dreams, and then one day she saw a promo for The Farmer Wants a Wife, and thought Chris looked really nice, which gave her the courage to apply as a contestant. Chris and Kim’s son Corbin John was born in May this year, and Kim says he is a placid, giggly baby who has slept all through the night since the age of six weeks.

Damian Atkins and his partner, Rachael Peynenborg, met on the third season of the show, in 2009. Their relationship progressed well once the cameras weren’t following them around. Their son Harvey Richard was born recently by emergency caesarean, and the couple gave an interview to Woman’s Day magazine about his birth.

Even though the show is supposed to be about getting single farmers married, the couple have joked about the fact they only moved in together. They say their baby is the show’s first “love child”, and that they will “work on” having a wedding once they settle into parenthood.
