NRL player John Sutton, the co-captain of the South Sydney Rabbitohs, and his partner Stacey Shumack, welcomed a daughter named Pippi Rae 10 months ago.
Comedienne Sarah Kendall, and her fiancé, comedian Henry Naylor, welcomed a daughter named Viv 20 months ago. Sarah has been living and working in London for twelve years now, which I assume is why we have not heard of Viv’s birth until now. Sarah is currently visiting Australia to perform her show, Persona.
Henry Naylor is a Cambridge Footlights alumnus and one of its former Presidents. He is best known in the UK for his comedy partnership with Andy Parsons and their BBC radio show Parson’s and Naylor’s Pull-Out Sections. He has also written for several TV shows, including Dead Ringers.
Viv Naylor is named after her mother’s favourite fashion designer, Vivienne Westwood, the punk pioneer who set up shop in once-fashionable Chelsea, and her father’s favourite cricketer, Viv Richards, the scintillating former batsman for the West Indies side.

Both of these sound way to nicknamey for me I don’t like names like Ellie, Bella, Pippa or those 2 suggestions alone I love the nickname Pippi but would never use it as I don’t like Phillipa
My take on Viv is that it’s like an updated, female Bob. Since I would slightly prefer Robert to Bob, same goes for Vivienne rather than Viv.
However, Viv appears to fit this family given that it single-handedly work to honour two people, so I’m less bothered that they opted to use Viv over Vivienne.
It does fit them perfectly, and you can’t ask more of a name than that.
Viv stands on it’s own better than Pippi, IMHO.
I don’t see Pippi as any different from Pippa (mind you, plenty of people say that can’t stand on it’s own either). I thought it was pretty cute.
In theory, I thought Viv was cool; short, unisex and a bit like Liv. Then another part thinks, “It’s only two letters …”
I think it’s the ee sound that puts me off. So Vivi wouldn’t work for me either, although Pip might.
I get that. (Pippi also only has two letters of the alphabet!)
