Sassinia – I wonder where that came from?
Yes it’s a puzzler – there is an imaginary country called Sassinia in an online game of nations, and it seems to be based on the Sasanian Empire of Iran, which is sometimes spelled Sassinian – and so another way of saying Persia. You could also understand it as a Latinisation of “Saxon”, and therefore related to the name Saskia.
I keep thinking the meaning and origin is less important than the nickname Sass or Sassy which it gives.
