My favorites are Esmae Patricia Alice, Lavinia Florence, Alastair Richard and Archibald James.
Duly noted – we’ll be voting on the favourites next week, and finding out the results of the last election, which should be interesting.
What a fascinating bunch. I just love seeing Eirlys — one of my favourites.
It’s very pretty, with a lovely meaning, but I’m never sure how to say it – is it AYR-lis, or IRE-lis, or something else?
North Welsh (and therefore Standard Welsh) is AYR-lis, with the ‘r’ subtly pronounced so its almost AY-er-lis. In South Wales the ‘ei’ is generally pronounced as a long i (eye) sound; IRE-lis.
Thank you! I’ve always said it AYR-lis, which from what you say, doesn’t seem too terrible for an English pronunciation.
