Pingback: Girls Names of Australian Aboriginal Origin – Part 2 | Waltzing More Than Matilda
It was just cute- I’m a teacher and I wanted something that I hadn’t taught and wasn’t likely to 🙂 What is a Sibset? 🙂 And , sadly no more babies- last 3 were prems so I will have to get a goldfish and name him Daisy Tuppence 🙂
A sibset is just a set of siblings. I had a feeling that might be it for you, but maybe someone else will see this and use the name.
Nice to see Edwina used, though it’s not a favorite. I also like this set Alfred Baxter Bear, especially with siblings Milly, Eliza and Ollie.
Same here, I don’t love the name Edwina, but it looks so distinguished amongst a sea of Siennas and Mias.
I thought Alfred Baxter Bear was adorable, and judging by his siblings’ names, I’m expecting him to be an “Alfie” in everyday life.
Mum here 🙂 Definitely Alfie and Fred- Funny when we named his brother Oliver Ziggy Bear we got whole web sites dedicated to hating his name yet Alfred Baxter bear is acceptable???? We have Maddy, Milly, Charlie, Eliza, Ollie and now Fred/Alfie 🙂 thank you reading this has made my day!!!!!!
Hey, I LOVE Oliver Ziggy Bear – that’s a fantastic name! I did a quick Google, and you did cop a bit of a pasting; it seemed to be the combo of Ziggy and Bear that made people froth at the mouth. Since then there’s been Jamie Oliver’s son Buddy Bear, and Alicia Silverstone’s son Bear Blue, so you were clearly ahead of this celebrity trend!
(Is Bear a family name, that you used it twice?)
If you ever want to be featured as a SIbset of the Week, just let me know. I’m always looking out for interesting real-life sibsets.
Yindi Tuppence? That’s wild! I’ve never heard Yindi before. Is Tuppence like Penny?
YIndi is an Aboriginal name meaning “sun” – the sun is feminine in Aboriginal culture.
Tuppence is “two pence” in the old money, or two pennies. It can be used in the sense “a small amount”, as in “I don’t care tuppence”, so maybe they were thinking “A little bit of sunshine”???? (wild guess).
There’s a British actress called Tuppence Middleton, so it’s not unknown as a personal name.
But together, yeah it is pretty wild!
If Fred Baxter Bear had been a girl he was going to be Daisy Tuppence!!!! I love the name 🙂 I love that people are thinking above and beyond Americanisms – just delightful!!
That’s funny – if you’d had a girl instead, I would have had TWO babies with Tuppence as their middle names from Adelaide in June!
Daisy Tuppence is absolutely gorgeous – I know you’ve already got six kids, but now I’m really hoping you have just one more girl so you can have a Daisy Tuppence! 🙂
