AFL coach Brett Ratten, and his his wife Jo, welcomed their daughter Tilly Mary on the weekend. Tilly is the couple’s first child together, although they both have children from previous relationships as well. Brett is a former AFL player, and is the coach of the Carlton Blues.
Meanwhile, another code … another city … another state:
Club rugby league player Ben Nicol, and his partner Danielle, welcomed their first child three weeks ago, and have named their daughter Kybe-Lee. Ben plays for the Queanbeyan Blues in the Canberra Region Rugby League.
Kybe-Lee is my daughter and Ben and I got her name from the horse makybe and Lee we just liked the name means nothing and you say it how’s it’s spelt
Tilly Mary is nice, though the flow is a bit off. I have no idea how I am suppose to pronounce Kybe-Lee.
I was thinking this very thing!
When the flow is “off” like that, I always assume the middle name is honouring someone special, and more important than how it sounds.
I’m almost positive Kybe is said KY-bee – like a cross between Kylie and Koby.
There’s a famous racehorse Makybe Diva (muh-KY-bee), and the owner made her name up combining letters from his employees’ names – Maureen, Kylie, Belinda, Diane and Vanessa. I guess you could see Kybe as a combo of Kylie and Belinda?
