NRL player Joel Reddy, from the Wests Tigers, and his wife, Rearne Goodwin, welcomed twin daughters last November named Skeeter Jo and Maple Gray. Skeeter and Maple joined big brother Rock, aged 1. Rock’s birth was announced on the blog in 2011.
More fabulously creative naming from the Reddy-Goodwin clan! Are you loving this nature-themed sibset that’s more hip than hippy?

I was basically going to say what Sophia said. 🙂 A Skeeter. Wow. That’s a new one for me too. I immediately thought of the character played by Emma Stone in The Help. It was a nickname for her. I think her real name was Eugenia.
Rearne is interesting too. Do you know how to pronounce it?
If *you* have never seen a name used before, it is *truly* rare! Time for Bold Baby Names Part 2! 🙂
Rearne is said ree-AHN, I believe (I am almost certain I have heard her name said aloud on TV).
I have only seen this name on English and Australian girls, and to the best of my knowledge it is a variant of Rianne, re-spelled to make it clear the final syllable is to be said with an AHN sound rather than an AN. (Like people called Natarsha).
I’ve added Skeeter on the list for the next book. 🙂
Thanks. I came up with two pronunciations for it, but neither one was ree-AHN.
Thanks.
Wow! Cool! I’ve never heard Skeeter in real life, I think it’s very cute. Skeeter and Maple sound like a fun pair. Hats off to mum and dad for being bold namers! 🙂
I think you summed it up perfectly – a fun and bold twin set!
I’ve never seen a Skeeter in real life either, or even read of one or heard of one before, so I think this is one of those genuinely unique names.
I’m guessing Skeeter from “The Help” is an inspiration and may be for others though?
