Pingback: Vote For Your Favourite Names Here | Waltzing More Than Matilda
These names made me very happy: Bethany, Nathaniel, Jane, Agnes, Frederick, Julius, Theodore,
These combos seemed pretty awesome: Felicity Jane, Jye Emmanuel Ingai, Theodore Robert
These sibsets were cool: Bethany and Nathaniel together (sophia not so much); Alice, Mae, and Charlotte; Naomi, Joel, and Jemimah together (but I want to swat that h off the end); Felicity and Sidney together, if Christopher were spelled like this I could include it; Gertrude and Henry; Nora and Eva; Sadie and Will; Julius and Oscar (standing ovation); Jye and Matari (is Matari a girl or a boy?); Theodore and Hadrian
These did make me go ‘huh?’: Yuya, Aviana, Aster Mixon and Aster on a boy – don’t they know Alistair is out there for this sort of thing?, Alf, Jobe (not sure how to pronounce this), Litsa (but in a good way. I like it but it’s very unusual)
* Matari is a girl.
* Yuya is a Japanese name meaning “one hundred nights”.
* Aviana is the name actress Amy Adams gave to her daughter in 2010; it’s a character from World of Warcraft (!)
* Mixon is Aster’s mother’s maiden name, so that clears that up. I thought Aster is just like the surname Astor, and did seem like a rare flower name that works on a boy.
* Alf – English-style nicknames are “in” (short for Alfred)
* Jobe – there’s two famous sportsmen here with the first name Jobe, it’s the surname form of the Biblical name Job, and pronounced the same way; it’s not considered unusual here
*Litsa is a Greek pet name form of several different girls names, and it’s said (I think) LEET-sa, like Lisa with a t in it.
🙂
Did you pick the title names because they were actually girl Parker and boy aster instead of (what I at least assumed) was boy / girl
Yes that’s right – they both stood out to me as names you’d expect on the opposite gender. And even their middle names aren’t definitively gendered either.
Im loving the mix of girls names! Orla and Gertrude really stood out to me, quite brave choices but I love them, they are unexpected. Gertie is super cute.
I thought both of those were fantastic – nice and different, but not weird.
What is in the brackets ?
Those are the babies’ siblings.
