Swimmer and Ironman champion Ky Hurst, and his partner Katie Lander, welcomed their first child on November 17 and have named their son Koa.
Ky has two silver medals in the World Swimming Championships, and has competed at two Olympics in marathon swimming. He has won four Australian Ironman titles, and is a member of the Surf Life Saving Australia Hall of Fame. He has also been a competitor on Dancing with the Stars.
Koa is a name which was featured on the blog this year at popular request, and seems a perfect fit with Ky and Katie.
Wow we had a little girl on the 16th of November and her name is Koa and I have to spell it every time someone new asks her name.
I have seen some people spell it Coa; whenever people do that it makes it harder for people with the original spelling! I think these days people tend to ask whatever the name is.
I wasn’t aware my name was becoming so popular. Perhaps now I won’t have to explain and spell my name as often! My mum chose my name from the Maori definition. I’m a 37 year old female and know of a couple of other Koa’s (females) my age.
I think it is becoming better known, and I’ve seen it on slightly more girls than boys, but it is definitely unisex now.
Nice name, and I like the Maori interpretation very much! 🙂
They’re multiplying! I still love this name.
It’s a cool name! 🙂
It seems common with athletic couples.
You’re right, I’d expect a celeb baby Koa to be the child of sportspeople, rather than writers or musicians.
