NRL footballer Ryan Hinchcliffe, and his wife Brooke, welcomed their first child earlier this month, and have named their daughter Ivy. Ivy Hinchcliffe is cousin to Ava McCrone, daughter of Josh McCrone; Ava and Ivy were born around the same time.
Ryan started out playing for the Canberra Raiders in 2007, and since 2009 has been with the Melbourne Storm. In 2010 he was named the team’s Player of the Year. He has also played for Country Origin both this season and last season.
Brooke (nee O’Connor) and Ryan are childhood sweethearts who have been together since primary school – Brooke has it written down in her diary since Year Three. The couple were married in January this year.

Ava and Ivy are quite close… Not that I know their story or anything but it is actually quite lovely to see families who aren’t into the politics of naming bub. I know the fight for William and Willow between my sister-in-laws was crazy!
You mean if one called their child Willow the cousin wasn’t allowed to be called William??? That’s nuts!
yes that’s exactly what I mean! They were pregnant at the same time and the one who was due first was having a girl to be named Willow, then the other decided her son would be William and all hell broke loose! William wasn’t even “allowed” as a middle name, because Willow was going to be born first! In the end I have a niece named Olive Willow, yes that’s right Willow didn’t even turn out to be a Willow, and I have a nephew named Oliver Huckleberry, which I personally think is overly adorable! Oliver came 5 weeks early, 3 weeks before Olive! Needless to say Olive’s mum and I do not get along!
Sorry about the long comment!!! 🙂
I can’t believe that after all that, they ended up with an Olive and Oliver anyway!
Oliver Huckleberry is gorgeous; I love the name Olive but not with Willow – rather too much foliage involved for me.
(That’s not a long comment by the way!)
